How Annie Deitz is Horrible With Technology (blog post 2)
Technology and I have always had a strong love-hate relationship. These days, it is almost impossible to function without some sort of technology. Whether for work, school, or fun, technology has become an integral part of life. But technology can also be rather, for lack of better words, "bleeeghk." In the times that you need it most, it lets you down. Your computer deletes all of your files the night before the most important assignment of the year is due. Your phone dies when you're walking in the woods, alone in the dark, being chased by a cannibal murderer. Your GPS directs you to California when you were actually trying to go to South Carolina. Technology has an unfortunate habit of messing things up and stressing people out. And I feel like I have worse luck with technology than most people. My most recent failure to use technology occurred the other day when I was originally trying to write this post. I tried to log into my computer, but it wouldn't turn on. Assuming it was dead, I plugged it into the charger. After about ten minutes, I tried turning it on again. Luckily, it turned on. I released a sigh of relief as the loading arrow spun in it's usual circle, signifying the waking of the computer. Then my heart dropped. The screen changed from the black page with a spinning arrow to a horrifyingly blue one, covered with nonsensical combinations of letters and creepy frowning faces. Is this the first time that this has happened? On this brand new laptop, yes. But on my old laptop, my mom's old laptop, my dad's work laptop, and my grandfather's laptop? No, I crashed all of those. I have a bad record with accidentally infecting computers with virtual viruses. Most of the time my father's tech savy friends can fix things when I mess them up, but it is still terrifying. It stresses me out so much that I avoid using technology whenever I can- other than my phone, it can't get viruses and that is so so wonderful. Trying to use a computer to finish an assignment can take hours for me and gives me enough stress to decrease my life span by at least half of a year. I guess it still can be useful, just not for me.
