Blog Post 19: Isabel Bandoroff
The best advice I have ever received isn't advice at all, it's a quote. I honestly have no idea where I heard this and I've been google searching it for years so if you know, please comment. The quote is: "You cannot be brave if you are not afraid". I think this quote hits the nail right on the head, and bravery is immensely misunderstood. Being brave isn't being fearless. Having courage is not knowing what will happen, or knowing that you're risking it all, but taking the first step anyway. It is not blindly and foolishly carrying on in the dark. This quote has stuck with me when I'm anxious or afraid. Rather than getting down on myself for being scared, I recognize you can't have courage if you're not afraid of anything. That's just being stupid and reckless. I repurpose my fear into bravery and whalla no more problems.
