I don't watch a lot of TV, but there are a few shows that I have latched on to. One of my favorites is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. The anime focuses on fights between people with increasingly bizarre powers that come from their stand, a magic spirit a few people have in that universe. Some of my favorites include the stand that's just a very strong car, the stand that allows the user to gamble on peoples' souls like poker chips that results in a fight that is literally just a game of poker, and the hawk with ice powers that fights the dog with sand powers. The whole show is incredibly stupid and it barely slows down, but it still has serious moments. Character deaths are given all of the weight they deserve, and the heroes get into some pretty dire situations that seem impossible to get out of. Still, I mostly just watch Jojo for the goofy, over-the-top fights.
My favorite show, however, would absolutely have to be Gurren Lagann. It's another hot-blooded show about people fighting each other, in this case using giant robots. But under the surface, it shows strong themes about how people affect each other, finding a balance between emotion and logic, and the power of determination. A lot of action shows mention these themes, bu Gurren Lagann takes it further by making its entire plot and universe revolve around these. Too much happens for me to recount here, so I'l just say that whenever I feel faced with an impossible situation, I can just listen to the full intro an I feel much better about myself.
