When I
was younger, I was a “bigger girl”. I remember first being stressed about my
weight in the fifth grade when our gym teacher weighed all of us and weighed
116 pounds. *insert horrified gasp here*. Now that I’m older that really wasn’t
that big of a deal, but that flashback is to move into the topic of ~TeChNoLoGy~, because
also around this time I was the proud owner of a maroon colored Blackberry
cellphone. I thought I was very cool.
Me and
that phone made it through three years together, and the positive impact came
from it when my mom so generously let me purchase ten 99₵ songs to put on it.
And my god it was amazing. I was able to listen to music on my phone!
And
more importantly, the positive impact came in from having music on my phone when
I started walking and listening at the
same time.
They say that if you walk for at
least thirty minutes a day it does wonders for your health, and boy they
weren’t kidding. Having my phone act as an ipod I was suddenly normal sized. All
of my clothes were way too big! I discovered that I had collar bones! It was a
magical transformation! (…Did the fact that I hit puberty and grew five inches
contribute? Hell yes, but this is about celebrating technology not the
pituitary gland)
This
may not seem like that big of a deal, but it was to me. And there are plenty of
other ways phones, computers, ipods, and tablets have had an impact in my life
but this was the first and the most important.
