Come to the dark side, Logsdon
*screams in joy*
This summer I went to the lovely nerd camp called VAMPY. You
stay on WKU's campus for 3 weeks and take a class of your choice. It's not for
everyone, but it was for me. I LOVED IT. Sadly this summer (which feels like
forever ago already) was the last year that I was allowed to apply :( Anyways the class I took was a
humanities class, which is just a bunch of hella deep conversations about
religion, the afterlife, and *trumpet noise bubabadahhh* GOOD VS. EVIL!!! (and
some arts and crafts so we wouldn't be too emotionally scarred)
During my time there, after long periods of discussion over what
good and evil was (lasted like 3 days), we came to a somewhat unanimous
opinion. Good and evil are not possible adjectives for people. People can
commit acts that are clearly good or evil. That's not the hard part. When you
look at the person themselves you have to think about background, intentions,
situations etc. And once you have all the variables that you cannot simply plug
into an equation that will give you good or evil, you realize that there's a
whole lot of grey area in between the two where people usually fall into.
In my personal opinion, being the optimistic marshmallow that I
am, I do believe that no one can be truly evil but people can be good. I think
good and evil coexist more closely than we like to admit. Sometimes people
perform deeds we see as evil, but it was done with good intentions and has a
positive outcome. Are they good or evil? Sometimes people perform deeds we see
as good, but it was done with malicious intentions and has a negative outcome.
Are they good or evil?
It's really up to each person to follow their own morals and
keep good character (knowing the right thing to do and doing it). And even then
we're all still grey areas.
