Andrew Reese: Assignment 9
Behold! I, a seventeen year old who has never been in significant physical danger and doesn't follow politics will now make absolute statements regarding when war is or is not appropriate. Sarcasm aside, I do believe that there is a time for war, mostly because saying that there is never a time for something sounds stupid to me. War can probably be morally just, even if sometimes it has to be the lesser of two evils. Sometimes, we can't do everything we want to, and we need to settle for picking out what's most important. This attitude can also lead to people doing horrible things because they feel that it is the only way to get things done. Sometimes, enough bad things are happening and a threat is large enough that a country probably has a responsibility to go to war. I can imagine there are situations in which conflict is inevitable, and war is the only way to protect yourself. Sometimes there are alternatives to war, and people fail to seek them out. The cost of war is too great for these options not to be pursued. Their effectiveness would probably be greater if the work, which both sides generally want these alternatives to.
